What are you working on? John Craft

John Craft, Texas, has a couple of very interesting projects going on in his garage. The first is a real deal 1964 Ford Galaxie race car. You need to know a little history on this car. It was originally the 1964 Holman Moody “House car” (C4HM=10041).  It was an “extra” chassis that H&M prepared for “celebrity” drivers and special needs. It was raced in both NASCAR, USAC and SCCA (Sebring!) competition in ’64. Jabe Thomas bought if and ran it in ’65 and ’66.

Here is what the car looked like when John saved it.

 Talk about a pasture find!

Today, after countless hours in the shop the car now has paint and a smooth body and chassis true to its original H&M build.

You are not seeing things, that is Candy paint on a race car, just like the original!

Here it is back in the day on the track.

This image does not capture the color as well but you can sure see the race heritage.

Gentleman and NASCAR Hall of Famer Ned Jarrett actually scored NASCAR points in it in ’65 when he rented this Galaxie from Jabe for one race.

When complete, Dr. Craft plans to race the ’64 some (not too many venues are available, so it won’t get used much) and to show it, too. He may also run it at open track deals like the SAAC convention from time to time.

He is also working on an Allison Torino but more on that project at another time.

I grew up and lived in Iowa for nearly 40 years before moving to Southern California and now live in Tennessee. I have been into cars since I was old enough to remember. I don't have a brand loyalty although I do prefer American Muscle especially the 1969/1970 NASCAR Aero Cars. (Check our our www.TalladegaSpoilerRegistry.com page) As long as it has four wheels on it I get excited. Few men are lucky enough to be able to share their passion for cars with the woman they love. Fortunately, my wife Katriana is also a gear head and many of our activities revolve around the cars. We have a small collection that includes at least one car from each of the Big Three. Katrina prefers all original cars while I like to modify them so we have a few of each. When we aren't playing with cars we are out with our miniature donkeys. You can see more about that part of our lives at http://www.LegendaryFarms.com.

  1. Fantastic, what a job bringing this car back to life. Kudos to Dr. Craft and those who are assisting him. Just to open my garage door and see a real (semi-retired) race car is a dream come true. Kepp us posted on the Bobby allison car too. Thanks
